Crewe Burkeville squads head to World Series

The Crewe Burkeville Darlings, Belles and Debs girls softball teams are prepping for the start of the Dixie World Series. The Belles first game happens Saturday at 4pm versus Mississippi. The Debs take the field at 6 Saturday night against North Carolina. The Dixie League website has no information up yet on the Darlings schedule. Donations to help defray costs can be sent to the Crewe Burkeville Youth Recreation Association.

Police probe Blackstone home entry

Blackstone Police are still trying to find out who entered a Maben Avenue home recently and watched TV while the owner was sleeping. A woman in the home woke up that night, found the TV on and both her front and back doors open. Police found no evidence of forced entry. No injuries, but the woman says she plans on having her locks changed.

National Night Out to be marked locally

Crewe and other municipalities around the area are readying for National Night Out. While the official national recognition is Tuesday, August 4th, Crewe will hold its Night Out that Saturday, August 8th. Events will start at 5pm at the Crewe Library Field. Free food, drinks and family activities for all who turn out.
