Mumps Case Confirmed In LU Student

A student who lives off campus at Longwood University has the mumps. The Piedmont Health District confirms the situation. Health officials say the mumps causes swelling in the salivary glands, fever, headache and muscle aches. The virus is spread through coughing, sneezing or direct contact with saliva from an infected person. Symptoms usually surface between 16 and 18 days after exposure.
